so i just picked up a 2004 single cab short bed w/t silverado with the 4.8

Not too sure if i will film/document the build because its daily driven and i wont have time but plans are : e85, supporting mods, cam and a turbo for daily driver/tow vehicle

Hoping to run non intercooled thats why i would opt for the e85, meaning colder ait theoretically

Just thought i would share, pretty excited and more then ready to be rid of my 2005 nissan frontier.

161k on the clock, brought it home for 3,300$

Going to be buying a 4l80 soon and probably going to try and just get a 6.0 with 4l80 off ebay or out of the junkyard and rebuild them while i accumulate the turbo kit slowly

Do the 4L80E but leave the 5.3L in there, turbo it, and let it eat imo. When it blows up go 6.0

Well i think rings and bearings are a necessity and obviously have to pull the motor to do so ... so if i have a rebuilt 6.0 waiting all i have to do is the motor swap and freshen up the 4.8 for later or maybe for the monte carlo incase anything ever happens with the big block

Adding cylinder pressure on stock bearings with 160k on them just doesn't seem like something that i will get longevity out of lol

The 4.8 bottom end is worth $300. That's all you have to lose.

being that its a good running motor i just can't justify neglecting it, knowing there could be a problem as result

And a quality ring pack with set for the boost would also make for good reassurance

Could easily be making 500+ with a 4.8 im sure you've seen the builds

Yeah more like 800+. It's running now and worth $300. If you pull it and rebuild it you will have over $1000 in it and it won't be any stronger. The piston ringland is still the weak point. If you do pull it down gap the rings at .027" or larger.

ring/bearing and probably a cam swap for the 4.8 if do pull it, might aswell do cam bearings aswell since its not in the truck ^_^

and then springs and a valve lap and she should be ready for numbers

i really just want a reliable dd/tow vehicle its only a 3,000$ truck rofl

I just fail to see the reason to pull an engine down that is only half way through it's service life. For what you are talking about spending you might as buy a forged short block to go in it.
