So, I want to get a hold of a stack of old license plates, for an armor project I want to do (think Max Max / Post-Apocalypse.)

California state law doesn't allow junkyards to resell plates off wrecked cars (for reasons that should be fairly self-evident.)

Anyone live in a state where the law states otherwise? Alternately, does anyone know where I can get a stack of old plates besides Fleabay?

I think they all have to be expired plates.

Did find a bulk dealer website-
http://www.turnerplates.com/Bulk%20Plates%2001.html

"Approx 1000-1200 Texas "pull-off" plates. Includes various bases (auto, truck, farm truck, handicapped) in several styles ("Big Red", "Texas Flag", "Lone Star State"), but no currently-issued blue graphics. Plates have various dents, scratches, etc. just as they came off vehicles.

We didn't count all of them, but there are at least 1000 plates, probably more like 1200. Same price either way - we need the room!

Item BP-004: $250 for all -- our largest lot and least expensive price per plate!"
