Is there a such thing as a performance MAS?

I had to replace my Mass Airflow Sensor on my vehicle; I rode around temporarily with the sensor completely unplugged to bypass the performance issues associated with the bad sensor.

I just put on the new sensor and it is actually running at a slightly but still noticeably lower performance level than with the sensor unplugged.

They only had one MAS for sale at my local auto parts store and it was literally the cheapest remanufactured MAS available for my car.

Is it worth repurchasing a higher quality/new MAS? I still have 30 days to return it, I would appreciate some input.

1993 Mercury G Marquis; not the nicest car but has cold air intake/I went with performance wires, coils, and plugs when I had to replace them, dual exhaust. It at least is not stock.

a few upgrades; nothing major.

Short ram intake, converted to dual exhaust, performance ignition/wires/plugs/coils and I was considering other options to increase HP...

It's still stock then, upgrading the MAS is pointless until you require more flow because of boost or a built motor. And the only real upgrade would be a bigger housing in most cases. The sensor itself is just a sensor, any upgrade would be done through the ECU

so the generic remanufactured is just as good as like a new hitachi, BWD brand new?

like there are not more responsive sensor types for instance?

my main thought is, would a higher-end sensor have faster relay times between the ECU and the sensor? You would think if the computer can read the changes in air flow faster you would get better throttle response?

Ok thank you, you don't have to yell :-P

I'm just wondering why my car seems to have a faster throttle response time with the sensor actually unplugged versus a brand new sensor plugged in; I'm actually debating on leaving it unplugged :-/

I'm actually considering that I may have received a faulty MAS, it is remanufactured and when you actually look inside of the sensor the soldering on the prongs has a bur on it and what appears to be a rather large excess piece of solder.
