the stealership tried to tell my wife that her car needed "special" transmission fluid... that costs $20 a quart.

I guarantee that there's nothing on a Nissan Versa that requires special ANYthing.

Lettuce be cereal: besides taking in a new-ish car for some kind of factory recall, is there *ever* a reason to take it to the stealership mechanics?

I once had to get a timing chain replaced (pretty big job). My personal mechanic quoted XXXX to have it done and take about 2 days. I took it to the dealership just to see what they'd say and they ended up giving me a quote of $200 less (because they had a guy who was extremely good at those jobs), I got a free rental car for the 2 days, and also got a synthetic oil change.

That was the only reason I went with the dealership.

...well, hot damn! Didn't see that coming.

I'm still of the opinion that dealership mechanics are generally more expensive for equivalent work anywhere else, but it's nice to hear stories of people not getting screwed by the dealership.

In all fairness I had to ask for all those extras and I'm pretty good at negotiating...but just like anything if you don't ask you'll never get it

And ya...99% of the time...fuck the stealership

0 dicks. was actually my first time ever going there.

I go to them for all my oil changes now though, so their good service paid off.

If a small part you can't find anywhere else is missing I suppose.

My Mom got a 2012 Focus Hatch and there are 2 little strings that hold the trunk separator that was missing. Can agree it is expensive when it comes to that. Although it was only like $13 or something.

yeah youre probably gonna want to use the oem cvt fluid. unless you just like playing russian roulette with your car. you should at least investigate what kind of fluid they are going to use and check to see if anything else is compatible instead of just believing that anything they tell you is going to be a lie.

http://www.amazon.com/Nissan-Factory-Continuously-Variable-Transmission/dp/B006OBXCX6/?tag=viglink21500-20

you can look into what cvt fluid your parts stores have (assuming its a cvt) and see if they are compatible with your vehicle and then if they are cheaper. i have no experience with cvt transmissions or their fluid so i cant tell you what, if anything, would be another option that would be cheaper than nissans fluid.

Aftermarket CVT fluid is $12-$15 so you are definitely not getting ripped off at the dealer.

You're welcome.
