There are far to many people that would lose a job, or business as well as a TON of money backing the industry in both repair and aftermarket.

I feel there IS a legal standing for the OEM, but like jimmy said, way to many people would be out of business..

I used to live in communism, yet everyone was allowed to work on their cars. This is pure capitalism.

Government interference in free market (making aftermarket work illegal) is anti capitalist ideologically.

However the actual capitalism we are exposed to doesn't not intervene it bails out and protects big business, so yes its "capitalist" but because it is occurring to benifit our predominately capitalist system. the act itself is not though.


On topic i dont think they will ever get away with this on owned vehicles. Worst i could ever see is them saying the emblem has to be removed on modified cars as its misrepresents their brand.
Telling an owner they cant do what they want with their private property wont happen though.

Most of it seems to center around the ECU and the advanced features it toggles on and off. You would still be able to accessorize as you please. You can bet your candy ass the EPA goons will be all over this. Passing something that puts tuning software developers out of business would eliminate aftermarket engine mods and emissions deletion components in 1 pen stroke. We saw them go after the guy building the SMARTY brand of diesel tuners for being the most popular tuner used to delete DPF and EGR from new cummins trucks. There was quickly and chinese copy being sold. This is bad news overall. I will admit the new ECUs are far more complicated than stuff from 5-6 years ago. They are now beyond the grasp of probably half the professional tuners out there. They have a point, but in the past that would make new space in the market for people that do understand it to rise up.

This is the latest step in trying to toddler proof America.
