So my girlfriend's 2002 chevy blazer - automatic, wont reverse. it switches into reverse as easy as can be, and has been driving fine going forward, but she said the past 2 days she was having a tough time reversing and had to give it a lot of gas. now it's on a slight decline (meaning if you put it in neutral it'll roll forward) and she tried to back up and that was not successful at all so now it's stuck in a parking spot. She also said yesterday her maintenance required light came on.

Transmission dead? Does it just maybe need transmission fluid? What could be wrong?

Note, it shifts into reverse just fine and still does, it's once it's in reverse, it doesn't go anywhere. Car is an automatic

Update - so she just checked the transmission fluid. very, very low.

what are the odds that it'll be good as new when she puts fluid back into it? Any chance that she could've blown up the transmission that quickly?


Also, I'm about to put transmission fluid in it. What do I do? Just pour some in til it's close to the fill line on the dip stick? Then what? Do I have to run the car for a while before actually trying to reverse again?

most likely going to need to be rebuilt or replaced, i dont know much about trannys though

It wont FIX the problem at hand when you put fluid in it, but it should engage reverse.. No fluid= No line pressure.

Try adding some fluid and running it through the gears.. Than bring it to a shop so they can diag WHY there was no fluid in the transmission.
