I've always been a manual lover, but i've been hearing amazing things about this torqueflite. Has anyone had any experience with them?

The 8 speed is pretty new. It's only been out a couple years and has not had much power ran through it. (other than the hellcat's version)

My buddy is in the oil field (kinda, he owns the company) but logs a fuck ton of miles. He has an ecodiesel half ton with the 8 speed. He has just over 85k on his truck and the truck shifts just like it did when it was new. That truck has not had an easy life at all.

As for daily driving, the hellcat we got to test a few weeks back had the 8 speed as well. With that motor it worked really really well. RPMS hardly change in normal driving conditions and they shift very smooth. no hard shifts. when you get on it thats a little different story but they seem to be alright so far.

I wouldn't call it an amazing transmission but it does very well for what it's used for. Hopefully it will be a good unit @ stock power levels. Only time will tell. *disclaimer* I've never had one apart so I couldn't tell you anything about the design as far as strong points or weak points.

Are there any real benefits to having the 8spd over the manual? Aside from convenience of not having to shift?

One could say it would be more consistent in a racing aspect. There really is no difference in fuel economy. Both have a very high OD. 6th gear @ 2,000 RPM is about 83-84mph in my srt8.

Just depends on if you want to shift or not. I prefer a manual transmission so that's what I went with. Only downside is if you live in a big city and commute during rush hour, an automatic would be nice there...

Have you had your's out in the weather at all this winter? I don't plan on driving much in the snow, but it would be nice to know if im able to venture up the road if there are light flurries out.

I drive mine year round. I also live in Houston Texas. The car does fine in wet conditions.

However, I did take it to Wisconsin for Thanks Giving and it snowed. (I did have summer performance tires at the time) and the car did not do well at all.

With some weight in the trunk and a winter tire it wont be much different than any other RWD v8 car out there on the market. It's usable, but not the best thing you could find by any means.

Ask Ride868 (or whatever his acc name is) about RWD cars in winter. Pretty sure he is stuck daily driving a c5 vette in canada right now.
