Why does it say low miles at 100+k?
I'd consider that high... especially since you can assume they have been rough on the vehicle.

could be fun to drive...if it even drives like it should..

id never buy a car that has been tuned by who knows who and that has been certainly beaten to death.

If 5k is your budget, then you dont have the money to play. You have the money to get from A to B.

You don't see many Mk. 3 Golfs with less than 200,000 Ks. It's low K's relative to the car. You'd expect to find a VR6 GTI with between 200,000 and 400,000 clicks.

As for the car, it seems decent but for 5k you should be able to find a tdi. I got mine for 1,000 and it's been great to me for the last 4+ years
