I'm planning on buying a new 1.4 astra hatchback later this year, not impressive I know but it's a big upgrade from my 02 reg micra :D

I've been looking at them online and I can see theres a 1.4l insurance group 9 and a 1.4t thats insurance group 17.

Any ideas what the difference is between them? Shit looks identical to me :D

Thanks for helping a car noob :D

One has a turbo one doesn't, turbo produces more power which gives a bigger chance of accidents due to idiots.

Well, I would get the turbo personally if you live in a city. Merging blows with a naturally asperated engine that is that small, its almost safer to have more power in a way. The difference that you'll pay(if any) for insurance won't mean much with the added comfort

I live in a relatively small village and only have to travel 7 miles each way to work. So not really a problem honestly.

Only time I touch a motorway is when I go away for holidays.

I have a fiat 500 which is a small 1.4 also. A turbo on a motor this small it wasn't really a huge difference I drove the normal then turbo to see which I wanted, wasnt worth 6k more for the turbo version. My car has no problem merging when I drop a gear and am in the powerband.

6k more? That's a lot

The difference in price between the astra version is pretty tiny. Will probably just stick to the normal one anyways.

Thanks for the help guys. Appreciate it.
