So I'm having this problem with my lady's car, it's making a humming noise when driving. And in the rain it won't let you accelerate over 35ish mph.

Took it to the dealer and he told me the used tires I just bought are making the noise (firestone) they swapped them out with the 2 brand new tires on the front and the noise is gone. They spent 1.5 hrs changing tires back n fourth and driving. He claims it's the tread pattern on the Firestone tires.

Anyone every herd of something like this?

so the tread of the tire is not letting you get past 35mph?

what year is it and awd or fwd? are you getting check engine light or the stabilitrak light? does it look like this pic?

Its fwd, 07 no lights come on when I'm not being able to get up to speed.

The noise is what they are trying to chalk up to the tread, which doesn't just make sense since I was getting a loud humming noise before I got new tires and how the noise of ly happens if the Firestone tires are in the back but not the front.

I'm no car mechanic so maybe I'm not understanding something but if that's the case then neither is the dealership I got the car from.

depending on the tire some do cause more road noise than others. i dont have experience with firestones but usually your cheaper tires are loud. so yeah it could be just your tires. the big thing you want to watch for is pulling left or right and if it shakes while running 55mph or so. you can also have tires that feel fine at speed but going like 5mph makes your car shake left and right. if its just road noise from the tires i wouldnt worry too much about that but you need to figure out whats making it run only 35mph.

when its running as fast as you can get it is the motor revved way up like the transmission isnt shifting or is it just kind of chugging along and dont have any power?

No runs just fine shifts gears great. Drives fine besides the noise, the noise started with older tires do I figured the noise is from the older tires so I got new ones and still have the noise, all different brands then the old ones I swapped out.

but you said when it rains you cant get over 35mph. you mean the tires dont work in the rain like you just spin tires? i thought you meant you had a mechanical problem keeping you at 35.

No tires are in great condition. I have traction in the rain, it's like a govern keeping my car from going over 35 mph in the rain.
