In need of*

I have only ever rented bikes form the mountains that I go to, each time it is about 75 bucks + a lift pass, I want to go much more often so owning my own over time will be worth it. Does anyone here downhill mountain bike, I am not looking for anything wild, just something that will have considerable performance and ride, for relativily low cost

Have tried craigslist, but I have no idea of what I should be looking for/ the cost
Does anyone know of any sites / makes and models that I should be looking for an a respective price range?

Looking for something like this

So I can do this

Go to any bike shop in your area and talk to them for a little bit. They'll give you all the information you need to know

this is no possible way to get a good bicycle at a realitively low cost, unless by realitive you mean 1-2k.

1. start researching bikes, brands, and styles.
2. go to a bike shop and look around, ask questions, get suggestions. tell them you are buying new.
3. get your bike size, and an idea of what you want.
4. buy it on craigslist and save a grand.

i have a trek DS, but i mainly ride for distance on limestone and minor single track trails. there aren't many actual mountains or advanced trails in illinois, so no need for a full suspension mountain bike here.

Yeah if you saw a post or two up I understand the 1-1.5k is exactly what I will be looking at, the problem with the whole bike shop thing, is there is only one near me/ the mountain, and I feel that they will just push their products, yet I still need to go and check so we will see. Koj suggested 29's and giants so I will keep an eye out for that.

Unlike Motorcycles and cars which I understand the depreciation and advancement in tech, I dont in mountain bike yet, something that I need to catch up on

Appricaite the help m9's, yall are gr8
