I went to Andretti Indoor Karting in Roswell, GA yesterday and it was so much more fun than I expected.
The karts werent super fast but the were definitely quick through the straight sections.
I was destroying all of the people who were racing (but no one was really competitive).

This is the track. It was very twisty with two back to back straight(ish) sections that you could fly through. One of the last turns on the course was pretty challenging. I never managed to find a good line that I could hold.

I really want to find a similar track, maybe outdoors, with higher power karts! The ones at Andretti were 9 HP which was decent but some more low end would have been nice.

I raced dirt track karts as a kid and I had a 125cc shifter kart for a while. Both were fun. The dirt track kart class I raced in used 5hp briggs and stratton blocks that made about 18hp on methanol with an adjustable dry auto clutch. Lots of fun. Shifter karts are fucking nuts. Lighter than the dirt karts, 125cc 2 stroke engine and trans from a motocross bike. Figure 25-28hp for a built version. They are unbelievably violent. At 70mph a twitch of the steering wheel changes lanes. There is nothing quite like 100+ with your ass 3/4" off the ground. Mine seat pan would scrub reflectors in the road.

Super karts are 250cc versions of the same chassis. They run within a few seconds of F1 cars on tight circuits. The corner speed is unbelievable.

Racing karts is unbelievably expensive considering it is supposed to be entry level. Well, if you want equipment that can win it is.

How much was it? We have a similar one here in Wallingford CT, shit is like 25 bucks for 8 minutes though....every now and then I'll do it, but the cost is outrageous.

This guy's reaction says it all. He obv isn't a noob, probably rides motocross judging by his clothes. I've never shaken from an adrenaline rush like I did after my first shifter kart ride.

It can be a really good time for a group of friends with a competitive rivalry. One day I'll be loaded enough to have a pro level backyard track like Dale Earnhardt Jr and Chad Reed. Reed's road course is pimp. It has a fall away off camber right hander just after the crest of a hill.

I had a CRG with a YZ125 on it. It had a Pro Circuit cut head, Pro Circuit exhaust, and Boysen reeds. Nothing fancy by any means. It was 8 years old when I got it.
