I know a guy who has a dodge 440 and a 727 transmission, wants $800 for both. Both are in good working condition (need cleaned up a little), and have like 120k on them. They are in a 77 dodge RV. I'm wanting to know if thats a good deal on the price, and the pros and cons of this motor/trans. Any input would be great fellas.

chec the price of other similar engines and get a feel for the market, im pretty sure its a decent price but yet again im in canada and prices are always trough the roof.
ofc a 1977 engine has lower compression ratio cuz that smog and bullshit, but its a dodge so it still worth pretty pennys

What do you plan on putting it in?
That's a fair price as long as it comes complete starter alternator pulleys pumps etc.
I just sold my ford 460 for 500 just motor.

being a 77 block in an rv this is not the same motor you'd see in a late 60's early 70's car like you are probably thinking. Like stated, 77 motor is an emissions motor. About the only thing the same is the block. Carbs, heads, piston, ect are all different.

800-1200 bucks would be about right for this setup around me. These are not really a desirable motor unless someone is doing a bottom up build.

Well that price includes the entire RV so I get to pull out whatever the hell I want. Gonna take what i need and junk the rest, so ill be putting a little cash back in my pocket. The plan is to put it into an old charger or challenger, haven't exactly made up my mind on which yet.

Even for an emissions motor its still got to have some "get up" in it?

If you plan on modifying it perhaps.... The RV motors came cam'd a bit differently as well. Would be a better motor for a dodge truck that a charger/challenger project imo

Well it will see heads, carb, headers, ect before it even goes in the car. The plan is to eventually build the motor out a bit, but i wont be racing or anything, personal use kinda shit.

if you are getting the whole rv for 800 i would say go for it. you can sell any other parts and maybe get more money before scrapping it.

Late 440's are kind of a pooch... a strong stock 340 from the 68-71 era will eat it alive.

If you want some pointers on what directions to go shoot me a PM. Just be aware, parts for mopars are NOT cheap.. You could build 3 GM small blocks for the price of 1 mopar big block.
