I just bought a 98 grand cherokee, they're cheap and there a dime a dozen.
4wd and I6's are pretty reliable.
Just make sure you crawl underneath and make sure it's not rotted, because they like to disintegrate if not taken care of.
I like the cherokee's better than the grand cherokee's but I couldn't find any decent ones.

I was looking at grand cherokees but rust is a pretty big issue where I am.

yeah same here, atlantic canada is worse than ontario though, I lived in barrie for a few years.
should still be able to find some rust free ones, I did.
