I bought my car at 83k Miles. it is at 97k and I want to change the tranny fluid. The thing is, I heard not to change it at 100k miles, if it has never been changed before. The question is, how do I find out if it has been changed? Can I tell by the filter or something?

Nothing bad is going to happen if you change it 3k miles early. There's no real way to know when it was changed either. Check the fluid and see if there's any bubbles or if it's really runny. Will tell you it's old.

I think what he is saying is that if you went 100k miles without changing it at all, to just keep it the same.
Which seems pointless. I would just change it out now.

ahh. What I've heard in the past is that if the tranny fluid isn't changed for that 100k, the there Is residue that can go into the tranny From the buildup, and wreck the tranny. That is from The flow Of the new fluid. Sorry about my typing, This keyboard on the phone sucks.

Oh and is there anyway to be able to tell if it was ever changed?

ive always heard like high 100k mile range if you put new filter with new fluid the increased pressure can blow the seals out of the transmission. in cases like that its better to change fluid only. but you should be fine with only 100k miles on it.

to your edit only if they had records or told you they changed it. maybe if you knew the filter brand the factory put in and you could see it still but thats highly doubtful even if it was on the filter at all

Yeah that totally went over my head. Either way, it doesn't matter. Better to change it at 100k than not at all.

maybe you should just have your fluid filtered? if it has never been changed id def recommend changing the filter and fluid. iv e done this twice in my car but i own a dodge and they are notorious for tranny problems.

Yeah I was gonna do a manual change and clean out the pan + change the filter and fluid. I just don't want the tranny To go bad, even though I have a warranty until 110k

Oh Yeah that.

How much could it cost for that process? I know a flush is cheap, but I want the filter changed and pan Cleaned too. :(
