meh probably wont go over 8500

ive seen type-s 20-30k miles less 2006 go for around 7-8 in NJ but i know those are insane deals

just stick firm to your price and when you go to the dealership to look at it don't look interested at all, point out all the flaws and kinda be an ass about it. State shit like "oh that looks pretty bad, gonna cost XXX to fix that" shit like that. Then when you talk price just stick to your original number (8500) and don't go over. If they try to hose you tell them this isn't your first rodeo and to contact you when they have come up with a reasonable price and walk out the door.

They want your business just as much as u want the car

if the asking price is 8995 tell him 8500 out the door. i have worked for a couple dealerships, and still am working for one, this is the best deal you will get everytime usually cash prices are marked up 1000-2000 at used car lots. If he is marking it up 2k you tell him 1.5k out the door , that means he has to pay the tax too wich would be roughly another 600-800 dollars depending on your sales tax, he will still be making 500-800 dollars so he will probably sell the car.
