I haven't really posted in this forum so I'm not sure what to expect but I was curious if anyone had experience/knowlege on c6 vettes. I been considering getting one for a bit know and have started seriously pricing/looking at them. In my budget are mainly the LS2 vettes (05-07) and a couple LS3 ones (mainly 08s). Anything newer is too much moneys. I haven't seen a LS3 vette in person yet, the one I want to see is at a dealership like 100 miles from me and work has been CRAZY so I haven't been able to get out there to see it.

I am looking for one with a targa top, no convertibles or z06 for me.
Are there any common problems that I should look for?
Is there a huge difference LS2 vs LS3?
would a 08 vette with a little higher mileage (40-50k) be a better buy than a LS2 vette with low mileage (~20k)?
Any other tips or things I should know/look out for?

i know peanutbutter had a c5. i dont think ive saw anyone post on here that owned a c6. if you dont plan on modding the engine a lot and just mainly want a vette only then i would go with the cheaper one myself. the ls3 stock makes like 30 more horsepower.

just scanned the corvette forum and from what ive seen from owners is either one is a great motor. its probably just gonna come down to whatever other options you may prefer on them and the price.

yeah it seemed like that too from what I read. One of the reviews I read from I think Car and Driver said the handling was a bit improved in 08. Other than that though nothing insane
I would have no plans for serious hardcore mods. Just standard headers/exhaust type stuff.

i would say just go with whatever you like better then. either one should suit your needs just fine. if you find one make sure you post pics here and show it off

If it has really ANY body damage. Be very careful.

I painted a 63 and 76. The 63 was in a head on collision, rear end collision, and a tree fell on the trunk. Needless to say, the whole vehicle was covered in cracks.

Fiberglass is great because of its light weight, strength and inability to rust.

But once any structural damage occurs, it won't be before long that the damage will most likely spread, leading to lots of problems down the road.

But if it hasn't tapped into anything, or vice versa, I wouldn't worry too much about the mechanics. They are well built mechanically.

will do. its either going to be black, victory red, or lemans blue. I see soo many silver ones and IMO its soooo unflattering to the body style



yeah, thats my biggest fear which is why I was leaning more towards getting something in the 05-07 range with lower miles since it was most likely a summer cruising car

I completely agree with this. Also, if you're not planning serious mods, I'd go with the 08. The LS3 is fantastic for stock fun, and on paper the handling looks better than people had even expected prior to the release date.

hes probably not going to notice any differences though hes not taking it to a track. for street use the difference is going to be very minimal and not worth the extra money

Depends on where you live... In the Ozark Mountains handling is more important than power when it comes to driving for fun.
