I think maybe he is referring to the fact that the flange of the downpipe is determined by the turbo being used. I can't see the flanges to see if they are the same flange, but he could be inferring that one one the left is for a larger turbo than the downpipe on the right uses. The flanges look slightly different. And the 3'' diameter matters, although generally I disagree with reducing at all from the downpipe, but I can understand space constraints etc. You can't have too big of an exhaust with a turbocharged system.
What I don't understand is how the pipe on the left is in anyway an upgrade to the pipe on the right if both go into the same diameter on the bottom.
