from what ive read it specifies in the owners manual says it needs to be API Service SL and ILSAC GF-3.

royal purple says Exceeds API SN. ILSAC GF-5 specifications
castrol syntec says Exceeds API Service SM, SL, SJ and SH; API Certified Gasoline Engine Oil; ILSAC GF-4/GF-3/GF-2; Ford WSS-M2C930-A and WSS-M2C153-H

just look for the appropriate ratings on the oil and pick whichever brand you want. i would suggest waiting around for some more answers by other people that might have more knowledge on the renesis as i just searched around on some mazda and rotary sites for the info i found regarding this.

I know a guy that used to be a formulation chemist at Sunoco and he said he wouldn't use Royal Purple to lubricate a sandwich.

There are better oils for the same or less money. Now, as to what works well in the Renesis I can't say. I've never spent any time around them.

Redline, Brad Penn, Joe Gibbs, even Valvoline VR1 if we are talking race stuff.

Pennzoil platinum and Castrol Syntec for pretty much everything else.
