Basically, when i turn the wheel slightly, the lights in the cabin and headlights dim just a little bit, but its noticeable..

j/w if anyone would know why this would happen, i have a few assumptions but would rather not say to get a group think/bandwagon effect

thanks!

At idle and not moving???

Would be the power steering pump sucking juice from the alt.

edit before someone takes this wrong:

Through the belt lol, not a electric feed...

so does my trucks, ive never had a car that didnt do it now that i think about it...

When your car is moving, 1) it has more rpm's to feed the powersteering pump, and 2 is easier to turn the wheels because they are rolling.

At a stand still, its alot harder to turn the wheels, and less RPM feeding the pump, and it drags the motors RPM's down enough to make the lights dim due to the lack of RPM going to the alt.

Idk how your gonna fix it.... a new alt will do the same thing lol

The power stearing pump will slow down the RPM's of the motor (and belt) and there will be a lower power flow coming off the alt.

Not going to hurt anything unless you sit there day in and day out parked in the drive way cramping your wheel back and forth :P

I've never had a car do this, I dont think its to worry about unless it does it while moving

pretty sure jimmy is right, its a normal thing at idle. i cant say iv noticed it from my power steering but when i pull up and park at night and i roll up my windows my headlights will dim slightly. I have noticed things like this in other cars as well when at idle and id assume that any extra electrical drain at idle would casue this due to less power being available from the alternator at low RPM's.

I honestly dont know if a power steering pump pulls any power from the alternator or not, I have never replaced one or really payed much attention to them aside from making sure nothing leaks. im kinda thinking its a mechanical system but i dunno.

You can always try to get a higher capactiy battery / amp one. Doesnt it pull some juice from the battery for excess moments even when on / idle?

edit: never seen this problem personally in any of my cars either btw
