I don't know about most people, but people I've talked to irl have said how much their cats hate going to the vet. (DUH) With the way cats memories work they will think of the vet when they see/put into the carrier. I just was wondering what people here know of this.
I must say when i raised my cat from a kitten i always put her toys, catnip, or w/e in her carrier, and ofc she LOVES it! She is also a "box cat" where she loves to go into boxes, even if they are way to small :)
Every cat is different, but I'm looking for a broader scope.

If you do not want to traumatize your cat, just set the carrier out a half hour or so before the appointment with a blanket on the bottom of it. Most cats are curious enough to see something different and check it out. When they do go in, shut the door calmly. The worst thing you can do to a cat is shove them in against their will. Also, cats are extremely food motivated so after the vet giving them wet food or treats makes them forget the trip pretty quickly.

This is defiantly good advice!
Thanks for the input. I didn't think of that, I leave it out all the time, and give treats or w/e every now and then in there. She was a very sick kitten when i got her and required a lot of vet visits, but she never once disliked the carrier.
Wile the carrier is out side the house she meows like crazy, but once in the car or the vet building she just stops and looks around. She has never been a big fan of the outside, great to look at through the window but not to go into.

That's how my cat is. He's still a kitten and suffers from an upper respiratory infection that will never really go away but while I was trying out different things to help him he went to the vet a bit. He cried in the car but not in the office.

It's a good thing you keep your cat inside only! So many people still let their cats outside even though it severely shortens their lifespan. My cat will never go outside.

If you live in a area that has open and forest areas like a farm then it is great to have an outside cat. They are really cool, sadly you are right the lifespan of a outdoor cat vs indoor is half.
Out door cats are great at pest control, and can be VERY playful. However they could also run away, or worse run into traffic.
Ofc in city or urban area outdoor cats are not the best option, unless the damm cat won't stay in the house.
If anyone does get an outdoor cat make sure you get it all its shots including the Feline Luk shot... VERY important.

Cause they don't have the capacity for abstract thought...?

def - abstract thinking n. Thinking characterized by the ability to use concepts and to make and understand generalizations, such as of the properties or pattern shared by a variety of specific items or events

buy that definition that would apply to this discussion
They DO have abstract thought... the understand of a generalizations, carrier = vet
but if you can change their perceptions then this can change

Cats are different than dogs. Most cats will gravitate towards one person in the family and be completely loyal to them. If you have never had a cat then you wouldn't understand. My cat prefers me and follows me everywhere.
