we're thinking about having a dog, do you have advise if yes/no we should get one, and what kind ?

The main difficulty is to find dog that can run up to 10 miles and helping my girlfriend feel safe when jogging in isolated areas, as well as being happy living most of winter inside the house (most running dogs need to spend lot of time outside). Also he will rarely be outside without a leash since it's mandatory everywhere in my area. I figure a medium dog could be the right choice.

I hate barking dogs, we have no experience with training/owning dogs, and we have 3+6 years old kids. Also i really don't want a dog that could wake us up during the night (would hardly consider leaving the dog outside during night even we have the backyard for this).

But the dog will be rarely left alone and i am willing to invests for professional training as well as spending time on this.

we consider:

Labrador retriever is a obvious choice but i heard they need spend lot time outside
Golden retriever maybe ? is that the kind of dog that will cry during night because need so much attention ?
My girlfriend wants a husky, but i am afraid this is not a wise choice for us.

Any advice ? a mix would be certainly a good choice, no need pure race.

Huskies can be really noisy.

Labs are the best

my favorite dog is Doberman pinschers. my dobbie can do all of the things you mentioned.

btw, depending on where you live a husky could be a bad choice, they do not do so well in hot weather.

Maybe a Goldendoodle? They are good with kids, hypoallergenic, easy to train, and can handle lots of exercise.

Get a lab mutt. You can teach them to be quiet, excellent w kids, they crave exercise, and a mutt will be less prone to genetic bottlenecking that you see in some pure breeds.

not too small for women to feel safe vs aggressors ?

i saw that labrador need 30-60 minutes of intense exercise outside everyday, is that enough ? I can do that, pushing myself to do exercise outside is one of the main reasons i want a dog. My girlfriend runs 4 hours (40km+) per week, so i would have to complete that to make it 1 hour per day.
