I'm seriously considering buying myself one. I wanted to see if any of you guys have one or been around one for awhile, and your experiences?

I hear they have great personalities and are very loyal. I also think they are very sharp looking/cute! I want a buddy and I think a GS would be it.

My friend has one and they are highly intelligent. They are good for many situations: guard dog, protection, companionship. They do need a good amount of exercise each day. Other than that, you can't really go wrong with a GS.

Wow, that makes me feel real good. Thanks for the input.

The only thing I'm worried about is the training and puppy stage!

For me, I love the puppy stage because they are so cute and funny. They grow up very fast so the puppy stage won't last that long. This is a good time to build your trust and foundation with your doge. Enjoy it while it last :)

Unless you spend top dollar, even "good" breeders are sending out garbage sheppards. They've been inbred so much that they're filled with a shit load of genetic issues, like hip dysplasia, external tumors, cancer, blindness, etc.

Careful where you buy them.

Yeah, it's a big responsibility because I'm going to do it right and put the time in to train/raise the pup correctly.

Yeah, that's my only worry. I've heard that through a few of my buddies and research. I'll have to be very careful on picking my breeder, that's for sure.

Shepherds are great dogs, just make sure you socialize them as often as possible while there young. Also, give them plenty of exercise.

I had an all White Shepherd, best dog I ever had.

RIP Princess

PLEASE, do not buy from a backyard breeder... If your spending less then $600, your wasting your money. The breeders that do all the proper testing and are genetically in line has puppies starting at $1500+

Try a German Shepherd Rescue in your area, they have puppies and every age group possible at good prices for a good cause.

I rescued my current Belgian Malinois, great dog and her health is much better than my past German Shepherds was.

I agree.. Be very careful when selecting breeders. My friend got his GS pup for $2k from a certified breeder for the police K-9 unit
