So over the weekend one of my chinchillas developed an abscess is one of his lower back teeth, swelling the right side of his jaw to look like he was storing nuts (no I didn't feed him nuts asked the bimbo nurse when I used that simile). Anyways, the doctor setup an appt Wednesday to remove it because he said the shit inside is so thick antibiotics alone won't work because his body won't absorb the pus.

My question is, how safe is actually putting a chinchilla under for surgery? I have read that the risk of them not waking up is high for small rodents, which is why most are not "fixed". What level of concern should I have over this procedure? He says he needs to actually open it up and literally scoop out the goop because it wouldn't suck through the syringe. Any help is appreciated.

Tl;dr version, chinchilla is having surgery, how safe is anesthesia?
