We've got one at home (and had one before our current), excellent family dogs, very loyal, as they generally used as farm dogs their natural instinct is to 'heard' so mine at least whenever you're walking her in big groups she'll keep running back and making sure everyone is there.

All I would say is that they have a lot of energy.

there is plenty information available
in the wikipedia article there is a tag on the right you can tick and it opens a list of links to standards
key questions:

- can you give enough time to an energetic dog
- do you have a partner (if yes, you need input from that side)
- you have children (if yes, how old are they) or plan for one/many
- did you have dogs before (if yes, were they similar size/characteristics)

before getting any dog you have to consider how it fits into your (family's) life and how your life will be changed
border collies are certainly nice dogs but like all breeds, they are not for everyone
