So I have decided to purchase x2 male rats from my local pet shop. I have visited them a few times and they get on really well.

I am acquiring a large rat cage with multiple floors and ladders etc from my brother in law and I have started buying a few toys and bedding stuff.

However I am eager to hear any hints and tips you have with the experience of your own rats to help me out. This is the first time owning rats for me and I hear they are like small dogs in behaviour and I am conscious of them getting bored/depressed. Is there any advice you can offer me?

Thanks ya'll.

they are smart. and can chew through damned near anything if they are determined. they stink, and should be cleaned often. and if you want cheap, healthy food, go to a large feed store and request 1/2inch high fat rodent pellets. a 50lb bag costs me about $23 after taxes. i breed rodents for my snakes (awful to hear if you enjoy them as pets) but my mice are healthy and distributed locally for both pets and feed.

Cool thanks.

my rats never smelled, can be litter trained by simply moving their turds to a small in cage litter box till they catch on. extremely smart and really funny as well. love to share your food if you let them. rats>dogs they are my second favorite pets behind parrots
