So I teached my dog how to give a paw when he was young

now he gives it everytime he wants me or my girlfriend to pet him or to feed him

the problem with that is, it's getting somewhat dangerous because he'll give to whatever piece of skin is closer to his face ( and it's a German shepard mixed with a saint bernard so he's pretty big)

He actually scratched both our faces a couple times now and we don't know how to make him stop, we've stopped asking him to give it whenever there's treats around but except from that i'm not quite sure what to do to make him stop ...

any tips?

My dog does that too but he is gentle so its np.

Dont give him any attention ( positive or negative ) when he does it. Just keep ignoring the dog when he paws at you.

This. And make him lay down and be calm.

first clip his claws but not too much (use a nail file to round them up)
and when he jumps up, gently push him down (hope you are strong enough)

dremels work good for the nails as well.

and im assuming it was positive reinforcement for him to learn to "paw" in the first place. if you do not give in to his paw, i think the reinforcement may eventually die and he could possibly stop doing it

I think this would work the best. IMO

I have a great Pyrenees, never trained her to but she will paw at us for attention as well. I ended up training her to respond to NO in a firm voice and pointing my finger at her when i say it. She just lays down and gives the puppy face, but always quits whatever she is doing whether that be jumping on people, getting on the furniture, or just pawing at people.
