i'm looking for a very affectionate indoor lap-cat. pink nose, blue or green eyes, white paws. my friend suggested the ragdoll breed.

i would prefer a cat to also be leash-walkable and also very shy around strangers.

i've never had a cat before, so suggestions welcome.

These are the top family breeds.
Check the sticky above for more info.

Abyssinian: The Aby is an extremely friendly and sociable breed that loves to play.

American Shorthair: These happy, social, energetic cats also get along well with dogs.

Birman: Easygoing and adaptable, the Birman is noted as a go-with-the-flow cat.

Burmese: Friendly and people-oriented, Burmese are very gentle with kids.

Maine Coon: These big mellow cats are naturally sociable and a great cat with kids, but they do need to be brushed daily.

Manx: This tailless breed loves attention, and is also a social, friendly cat.

Persian: Like the Maine Coon, a Persian needs daily grooming, so be prepared for that commitment before adopting one. They are social and love attention.

Ragdoll: If you'd like a longhaired cat who needs less frequent grooming than the Maine Coon or Persian, consider the Ragdoll. They are gentle giants who were named for their propensity to go limp when picked up.

It's true,
but it's nice to be able to let him do his own thing.
I let him out at 5 am, and if I need him home I just yell from my back porch and he comes running.
He is fine to be out of the house for a week plus. It's still a bit nerve wracking but I know he's fine and can take care of himself.
It's nice to not have to baby him all the time.
He is very social, and never has bitten or scratched anyone in his life. I can throw him over my shoulder or take him for leashless walks around the neighborhood and he's as chill as can be.
Love that little motherfucker

kids in this apt complex shoot cats with bb guns, so it has to stay indoors if it's not supervised. i also want a shy cat, not a social one. my friend's cat runs to her room and hides under the bed blanket when strangers visit. i like that.
