Took him to the vet yesterday after dog has had a hacking bad cough. Vet said he could have kennel cough but doesnt know. We got him 2 bottles of pills for his imflammated throat the only problem now is since his little throat gurts so bad he doesnt wanna eat or swallow giving him his pills is a pain in the ass. The vet said if hes not eating or drinking that i should do it my self and force it. Anyone know anyways to get my doggie to eat and drink? Ive tried using a plastic syringe to put water/milk in his mouth but its slow and not worth it. as for food he wont even smell it. only thing hes eaten is 2 slices salami that i happened to be eating and tried to see if he would. after that he wont eat anymore. help anyone?

smash up the pill and mix it with water
then force him to drink the mix woth a syringe

Hide the pills in slices of meat. Works for my dog!!

you could try hiding the pill in cheese or peanut butter, most dogs eat it so fast they dont notice the pill.

maybe if they're big dogs. i've had three little dogs, and they all sniffed out the pill, took it out, and ate just the cheese.

you may also want to try baby food if none of these work. Mash up the pill and mix it with baby food.
animals love baby food, and it's good for them.

You could also get a pill popper. They have a rubber tip, so they wont hurt your doggeh while forcing the pill down his throat. Generally that will do the trick. Just be sure he eats something either before or right after the pills so he doesn't get a stomach ache. Breaking up most pills deactivates them or breaks down certain molecules, which reduces their effectiveness, so call and talk to your vet before taking it upon yourself to ruin his meds. Liquid medications can be compounded at a pharmacy easily.

In keeping with my usual a-hole nature in the Pet section, too, wtf are you trying to feed your dog milk for. They're mostly all lactose intolerant and can't digest it properly. For those that can handle milk, don't give it to them anyway. It's extremely high in fat and shouldn't go into his body for any reason whatsoever, unless you want to take him back to the vet for a case of raging pancreatitis.

And don't forget to give him lots of love about 20 minutes after, either. Do it too soon, and he'll associate bad things with your love =3
