you would think that something like a monkey, or a rat which have so many similarities would be? always wondered.

dogs like humans too

monkeys - recent human contract unless very well trained
rats - wtf? so people keep rats as pet's i though they were just to experiment on or cat food

Dogs have been raised with Humans for hundreds of years.


Before they were wolves..... it's evolution, if they live easier being nice etc etc

Monkeys that communicate and live together well are humans

rats are great pets imo if you can't have a dog. i've had 3 of them in my life and they were all super sweet and never bit me. you can also train rats to do cool stuff.

they only live like 4 years though.

it's because of the nature of a dog
they are made to follow the pack leader, they are born to be submissive
calling them friendly is quite anthropomorphic

monkeys have a more independent character and do not like to be bossed around like a dog
that is the difference

Dogs had a purpose and could live in various environments.
Hunting, Protection, and transportation.
And throughout thousands of years their purposes changed slowly and now they're more like a pet.

been thinking about a pet rat actually.

dogs depend. some breeds like shikokus are more cat-like. independent, don't like to be held, etc.

they have been domesticated for a long time....
if monkeys had been domesticated for thousands of years the same result may have proven true for them.
