We found a wild mouse a few days ago hiding out in the barbeque and the kids I'm with wanted to keep it as a pet
I doubt it would live long since it's wild, but it's still alive and running around the tank we put it in
It barely eats any of the food we put in (cheese, carrots, berries, vegetables)

Well we found out it just gave birth to 1 baby, but it's dead
It really looks like the mouse ate its baby cause we can just see the head with a bit of blood under it
The kids think it ate the baby but I think it could've just died during birth

Would there be any reason for it to eat its own baby?
Also it's likely to have more, what should we do or put into the tank (besides setting it free) to make sure the others don't die too?

e/
Just found out it could be stressed or lacking food/nutrients which is why it eats its babies o_o
What should we do for it to make it better?

I dont think wild animals should be kept. Especially if it isnt domesticated. You could be causing him harm on the long run without knowing it. :/

Mice are known for eating their young when sick, stressed, or there are too many mice in a cage. If you bother the mother mouse too much she might eat all her babies. When the babies are sick the mother tens to leave it alone to die or kill it. When you have more mice in the cage that will have or has a litter then over crowding is at hand. The mother will also eat the babies if she feels that there is no more space.

Keeping a wild animal ( not domesticated ) is not a good idea, you don't know what infection may it have and it may bite the children.

I was thinking the same...

You need to put that poor mouse back where he belongs out in the woods...................

When I was younger my mom had a bunch of mice as pets, in those awesome cage things with those tunnels and whatnot.

Thats where I learned eating your babies was okay.
