There are some cats that are good with water like Egyptian Maus and Turkish Angoras.

Smart to reward your cat for going in though. However, besides needing to give them a bath every once in a great while, it's not really necessary to have them face fears of water, in my opinion.

most cats really dislike water, especially when their whiskers get wet.

as stated by atomic, try treating when you expose him/her to small amounts of water and build your way up and always do the face last as that's where they'll usually freak out

i think they dislike more to get
a) wet fur
b) no ground below the pawns (this make the stronger panic maybe)

i remember a picture from my psychology class. dude was afraid of heights, darkness, and snakes. the cure was to fall down a pitch black elevator with snakes crawling around you.

i think the point was that extreme measures can be used to eliminate the phobia. when you are faced with the obstacle, your body stresses. pulse goes up, start sweating, etc. but your body cannot be in a state of panic forever. so by forcing you to face your fear for long periods of time, eventually your body will stop panicing. iirc it's extremely effective, assuming you survive (and dont die of a heart attack or something)

tldr tie the cat down in the water with its head poking out for a few hours
