They can actually be really lazy lap dogs...but do try to have a somewhat active lifestyle.

If it's a racing hound, it won't make a good pet. Josh's roommate brought one home when he was going to be killed because he wouldn't run. (Ironic, because his name was "Runner")
He shit and pissed everywhere, chewed stuff up, wouldn't go up the stairs by himself, didn't listen to any kind of command or training.
I'm all for trying to rehabilitate a dog and make it a good pet, but that thing was retarded.

Plus he tried to chew up my childhood stuffed animal. :(

Edit: He was a beautiful dog and I admired his structure but no... just...no.

Some stories about Greyhounds can be sad, because when they're done racing a lot of the dogs go to pounds/shelters. I hear they're great dogs!

There is a family that adopts retired race dogs that lives near me and they are excellent and appreciative dogs (b/c they are treated like shit as race dogs and threw away when there no longer useful). they did however say that they had to do house breaking but no more than a puppy. Beware though because a lot of them will need surgery on their joints!
