He's very loud when he can't find anyone, any tips in how to train him not to respond with being alone by meowing all the time?

I have tried spray bottles and he just stares at me and gives me a death glare...

Yelling obviously does not work.

That inclines your cat to be aggressive. On top of I don't condone hitting in any sense in teaching something. It's called abuse.

Put something on

Radio or TV not loud but just so there is some sound
Or get him/her a buddy

inside cat / not enough budget for a another cat. On top of me being in a apartment with 3 other roommates.

Yup since the day I got him, took me about two months too actually figure it out though. We thought he was just arrogant and ignored us due to him being a ragdoll.
