Concerns:
-What do they eat
-Do they bite?
-Do they poop/pee?
-Do they stink?
-How big of a tank/cage/etc should I have?
-Can I have it wonder around without worrying?
-Will it ruin furniture/carpet?
-Is it dangerous at all?

Small insects and some larger tarantulas eat small mice.
Yes, they do bite.
They indeed poop and or pee.
They don't typically stink, but if you don't clean the cage often, it will start to stink.
You would get tank according to their size, or to how big they will get.
I wouldn't.
I doubt it, but its possible.
The ones they sell in pet stores are typically not dangerous; but there is always the chance of having an allergic reaction.

Does their bite hurt?
Will I get infected/poisoned?
You said that the ones in the pet stores aren't dangerous.
So are the bites safe?

How do I prevent getting bitten?
Do you have a tarantula yourself?

Very few Arachnids have fatal venom to Humans due to the toxcicity to Massive Human Body ratio ^_^
Widows and such will kill you though.
But every spider you can get from a pet store has basically 95% chance of being a wussy.

Don;t worry about the bite
its gunna hurt, alot. but wont kill you. unless its near you CNS ( Central Nervous System). Then you 5-0'd faster than a lvl 9 vs a glass cannon HLD Bowa. ^_^

I dunno if pet-store tarantulas are included, but some will flick their hairs at your eyes if you startle them. They're barbed, so it's gonna sting quite a bit if it happens.

Fun fact: Tarantula hairs are used for "itching powder".

Hell yea it will hurt.
You will be poisoned, but most spiders sold in pet stores will not kill you. The only way it would get infected if you didn't clean & sterilize it after a bite.
The bite is safe, and I'm sure a spider raised in captivity its whole life won't just attack, so the only way you'll get bit is cleaning the cage or feeding the spider; which it might mistake you for prey.
I do not have a tarantula, and in fact I hate spiders.

So if I were to get one, I shouldn't hold it/play with it?
Are they typically fast moving?
I always see them as being slow.
I just don't want to get hurt or bitten.
Do they clamp their jaws or whatever when they bite?
Or do they release right away?
