Not sure if it is bites from smaller dog, that he gets into it with or what.
I am eventually going to take him to the vet but wondering if anyone has seems this with thier pet?

is it only on the top of the head?

it does not look like anything that would be caused from bites from a smaller dog.

from the picture alone it could be simply dirt splotches
but i assume it is scabby

Maybe he is rubbing his head on something due to bug bites or allergic to something.

Old age, hes going bald.
