i just got a chinchilla, cage and all for free.. have always wanted one, but the initial investment was crazy... had him/her for a week now and it doesnt seem to eat that much. is this normal? eats all the timothy hay i provide but dont touch the pellet food much... also doesnt seem to drink alot of water either... ne feed back would help me ty is this normal?

Chinchilla's are built for harsh climates therefore they don't need large amounts of water to survive or even thrive. Keep it going with the TImothy Hay and give him a treat every now and then. And be sure to by it wood blocks to chew on or it'll go after about everything it can.

Are you feeding it the same food the original owner had? They might not like the new food you are giving them (if that's the case). How is it's poopies? Are they runny and mis-colored? That would be a sign of stress and I would let it be for a day or two

I had a hedgehog once, not the same, but similar.

thanks for the feed back, it seems to be doing better today, and it eats all of the timothy hay most days. just bought him some timothy hay cubes and it loves them
