They require some specialist care and most really aren't friendly and shouldn't be handled unless necessary. Wouldn't recommend it as a first reptile. If you're really serious then head on over to chameleonforums and check out caresheets, ask questions etc before you buy your cham.

You're looking at about $500 for the cham and cage, possibly more depending on the animal you choose. Then you have to keep several kinds of live food healthy as well. I have silkworms, locusts, crickets, dubia roaches and indian stick insects.

It's not overly expensive once you have everything going and you slowly learn tricks to keep costs down - but it is a lot of work.

Whatever you do - research first. Don't listen to the pet shop. Their care is rarely adequate and often result in the cham dying within a year of purchase.

awsome! i had a carpet chemeleon for about 4 years then he died :( sad thing is he turned black when he died :( i remember he liked these little yellow moth butterfly type things that would fly around at the park.. i looked like such a boss @ 21 with a butterfly net catching them at the park at 9am..

had a nice setup for him iv drip (mom worked as a vet tech)
big ass cage every now and the id strech a bungie chord across the top of my shower and he'd bask in the steam lol R.I.P Twiggy!
