yeah beardies get black bearded and poofy when scared. i think it's personally cool looking on certain hypos.

That definitely means you need to lower the temperature. Nobody wants a cooked beardie.

They do this alot when basking, if they get to hot they can go to the cool side of the tank (if people set up there tank properly)

Idk, I like to be careful. I've read in a few different places that they don't always realize they're overheating (which is also why they often burn themselves on heat rocks) and that panting is their last defense against overheating. Some said to cool it down immediately.

Heat rocks are probably the most hated thing in the reptile community lol, Yes many reptiles tend to burn them self on them. The temp in the cage is just the right temp. Ive read many things on the internet where people freak out when their beardie does this, they then say that they called their local reptile vet and they told them he/she is just gaping. (opening their mouth to get rid of extra body heat).

Yeah, I know what it is, but I've read and heard conflicting information from various presumably credible sources and since I don't know which one is more correct I like to play it safe. Mine does it every now and then but never for more than a few minutes. If he was doing it for an hour I'd get a little concerned.
