Spend the money for a well bred pup. I'm about to drop 2 grand for a doberman pup because I know it have problem free genes. My brother in law has a bulldog he just dropped 7g's on surgery for its ears and 10 grand for back surgery for his other dog. IMO fork up the extra cash up front. you dont want a sick dog all the time or at all.

It looks like your fiance is going to make the choice for you anyway but I would definatly pick the german shepard or doberman. Two of my favorite breeds and I just lost my white GSD a few weeks ago. You want a big dog that loves to be near you, cuddle you, play with you, do whatever you want to do. Pick this dog.


do not get an alaskan malli.... they do terribly in the heat. They are really not a family pet either. Yes they look cool but they were bred for a purpose and they do best in extreme cold climates.

After re-reading your first post, I really dont see why you wouldn't want a german shepard. About the cash, I would highly recomend going to your local animal shelter. Your saving a life and welcoming a new family member and, believe it or not, can make the best family pet.

I would do some research on both of the two breeds you listed. I know they have fairly short lives and drool like crazy. shedding on the st bernard would also be an issue.

Just get a damn elephant.
