If you want a great dog theres not much better then a border collie or border collie mix. I had a border collie that was mixed with what we think was a german sheperd. but thee most loyal and intelligent dog I have ever seen. Im not just saying that because he was my dog.

They arent a really big breed more of a medium breed but a great dog none the less

dont get a lab or golden retriever, they're hunting dogs and will probably not suit well with cats or other animals

I have a German shepherd X Labrador , very beautiful and incredibly healthy dog. He's only visited the vet 4-6 times of the 11 years I've had him. People still see him as a puppy when I take him out for walks. He is quite a bit larger than pure bred labs yet a little bit smaller than German shepherds. He is exceptionally intelligent and very friendly with everyone especially kids and pretty girls. Having him around has brought our family a significant amount of joy.

i have a collie husky mix, when she was a puppy she would dig a bit in the yard but never nothing too bad, great with kids, shes not huge but shes
fairly big. Shes easily the most gentle dog ive ever owned, and she never bothers the cat or other dog.
