What are your thoughts of cats?

They own you not the other way around

I feel like they would be really boring to have.

They don't really have a personality.

Are you kidding my cat plans stealth missions and attacks random shadow monsters and dust bunnies. My cat has perfected lazy and made it look cool, example I was training her to sit, stay and lay down and roll over and while she was laying down she single paw curled the food bowl under head and finished her food while still laying down. ZERO insecurities unlike dogs who think you have abandoned them when you just went to take the trash out. Or they break out into full out anxiety disorders and go looking for their owners frantically as if it were a lost child or something valuable.

So why would someone get a cat rather then a dog?

Don't get me wrong dogs are great however, in the world of apartments and houses a noisy dog, is a dog that will have to go. no one is likely to report a indoor cat as too noisy.
Last, ever have to place a deposit down for animals cats are cheaper all around.
