Cats love to be at the highest point in a room so they can and will climb everything if you don't continuously stop them.. and sometimes even when you do. I bought my cat one of those cat towers and now she doesn't climb much else.

only thing similar is they have 4 legs and a tail.
can't like them both equally, and if you do, something is wrong with you.

You can train Cats, just like you train dogs.
Introduce your cat to multiple things early in their life so they aren't scared of new things when they're older.
I helped clients train their indoor cats to not jump fences, come when called, play fetch, sit, down, etc.
It's not hard, it's just a different mindset.
A cat is not a dog, a dog is not a cat. But they are equally intelligent.

Cats are typically more independent.. once they're potty trained you don't really have to worry about them. Easy to potty train, usually, from my experience with four cats. Rewarding them with treats isn't really a thing.. I kind of just give them treats occasionally. They never misbehave and I never have any reason to "coax" them with treats.

I've had a lot of cats and a lot of dogs. The big thing new cat owners seem to forget about is the scratching. Cats can and will scratch the shit out of your furniture, carpet, etc if you don't correct it ASAP.. I'd recommend getting a book or just reading online. Cats don't need as much attention as dogs, usually, but they do need help :)

Just to add to this...

Some people do train their cats by rewarding them with treats. This is more difficult with cats though: while almost all dogs have an urge to want to play and follow their owner's instructions, many cats are simply not interested in learning these things.

If you want a cat who'll fetch and play tag and give paws, you're probably best off with a cat of the Ragdoll breed. Other cats are more hit 'n' miss; some of the best trained cats are ordinary street cats, but many of them just aren't playful enough for it.
