not too small for women to feel safe vs aggressors ?

i saw that labrador need 30-60 minutes of intense exercise outside everyday, is that enough ? I can do that, pushing myself to do exercise outside is one of the main reasons i want a dog. My girlfriend runs 4 hours (40km+) per week, so i would have to complete that to make it 1 hour per day.

Yes. If you have an off leash dog park near you you can take the dog there if you feel you need an off day, or the weather sucks or something. It's great for you to run w your dog, but not necessary every day.

I'm a bit late to the party but I'll give you my opinion

If you're looking for a dog that will be great protection, friendly to people that don't seem to cause a threat (friends, family and small kids),will exercise longer than you can ever imagine, and just a great overall dog.

German Shepherd/Alaskan Husky Mix or just a German Shepherd.

They're not horse dogs, they're not small dogs, just perfect. The only problem with these dogs are that they need to be challenged and challenged, they want to learn. I currently have a German Shepherd/Alaskan Husky and it fits every description you'd want. Another note that's worth adding, if you're wanting to go that path, I'd suggest getting a puppy (5-6 months), it's the best way for them to get into your lifestyle.

The barking thing is ofc high with guard dogs and shepperd dogs. Retrievers don't have that so much. A Labrador or a Goldie isn't a good protector tho. A hunting dog could do that but they can be extremely difficult to handle for a novice as can be guard or shepperd dogs.
Protecting humans is big with German shepperds or kangals
Neither are suited for beginners. Husky is totally out of the game. They need groups and outdoor holding. They need hours of runs a day.

Also there is a lot of variety in the dogs themselves.
In a bread of 6 you will have 2 dogs who are being shy, cautious to the point of afraid and 2 who are the opposite always going to the ruckus. For a beginner neither are suited.

Also to me it seems you don't want a dog , you want a pepper spray or a gun.
Dog people need to tend to their dogs. Train them and generally invest time.
Like for example it's 5:30 am where I am. My dog just needed to go outside because he isn't feeling well (threw up outside to :( )

I think Goldie would be a good option IF you are sure u want to become dog people. However they don't make great guardians. Also they are very exited. You need to be decisive and a little bit strict too. They need a strong character to orient themselves to. But most of dogs do.
Meaning for example if you know they won't be sitting you don't tell them to. If you tell them to stop you expect them to.

I'd go with the pure shepperd if u want. However they really need to be challenged
If you get a puppy make sure you do all kinds of stuff.
Play firework sounds regularly so they don't shy away. Go to an airport. Go to train station. Escalators cars you name it.
Give em treats for doing well. Create comfort while so

Yeah, shepperds take a lot of time at the beginning due to the fact they wanna learn, learn, and learn.
