Give it back on schedule and act like nothing happened but make a comment about how it slept the entire week.

haha, that is indeed a very sneaky way to cover up the death.

How big was he and how old roughly?
What was the temperature in the tank?
Did he eat anything while you had him, what was it?
What kind of substrate was he on, paper, sand, something else?

To be sure, brumation sometimes makes people believe a beardie is dead; however if you are 100% sure then the only way to get the cause would be autopsy. I would guess that stress or poisoning would be the reason. Usually an older beardie can take a week of not eating (if really needed) or lower than usual temperatures, but stress can be a killer. Bearded dragons are very senstive to stress--possibly more so than most other lizards. They have a bit more personality than the average lizard.

Either way, sorry to hear about this. Best to just be honest with your teacher.

e: oh, on sand ... well if it was not a full adult sand can be an issue when it comes to digestion. However it sounds like he was not eating much. Usually they like to chow down.
