I used to work for a company restoring houses / maintenance for gov assisted disability / handicapped people.

Bed bugs... are nasty, worse than roaches, If you see one, you have hundreds if not more.

Check around your vents, indents to your dressers (wood work curves), under your mattress, around the mattress indents (where it bumps up a bit) and other hiding places.. if you see little black things which some mistake as poop (its actually blood) bedbugs have been there. Depending on how much you see will determine how bad it is.

How do you get rid of them?

If you dont see the blood traces every where, they might not be that bad.
Get rid of your mattress & get a new one. There is no way around it unless you do the full treatment (which ill get to).
Your pillows, blankets & clothes you have two choices. Well three.

Toss them. Stick them in a bag & wait til summer to bake them in the scorching heat for 8+ hours or wash them N hit the dryer on repeat like 10 times.

They dont die from cold, they die from extreme heat. When I say extreme, I mean extreme.

After this PRAY to god they are gone, if its bad or they dont go away you only have one other option.

Empty your place, take all your belongings and have them professionally heated.

They take everything, stick it in a big oven type container & bake it on a million degrees (not seriously but its hot as h*ck).

Then while everything is out, vacuum all of your carpet several times, bleach + whatever other bedbug killing treatment you find scrub your walls, vents, heaters, belongings. Do this multiple times.
Then when you finish, vacuum yet again.

Its a very tedious & pain in the ass thing to get rid of.

Thats why they say they are worse then roaches, you ant just ignore them either.
Each bed bug can lay up to 500 eggs (think its like 2-6 a day) & it only takes 17 days for them to mature.
So you see how fast it can get out of had.

1 = 3-6.
3-6 = 9-18
9-18 = 27-54
27-54 = 81-162

From this point on it gets out of control.
Thats also not even including all the ones that matured or outside of one day of birth.

Act fast, seriously. Its the nastiest crap I had to deal with while doing that job.
I hated when people reported bed bugs.
