You need to find multiple ways to tiring him out during the day. Reason why he's doing that is because he spend most of his days sleeping/relaxing to a certain point where he has all these energy that he needs to use up.
If you're gone for most of the time during the day, have one of your roommates to help you out. Something along the lines of a cat catcher (String attached to a stick, with a toy mouse/feather attached to the end).

this is accurate. cats are born with hunter instincts. when they don't hunt and lie around all day, they're bound to have tons of energy, and they release it by going psycho, especially during the night.
you'll have to play with it during the day more often if you want to somewhat control these bursts of energy.
