snakes are a surprisingly cheap pet to maintain. the most expensive initial cost for the snake will be the aquarium or w/e enclosure you decide to use

baby snakes can be bought at pet expos for cheap - i got a corn snake at one years ago for $30

corn snakes like to climb a lot so you have to buy things for them to climb - again these are cheap, usually ~$20 for a piece of terrain like a mounted, sterilized piece of wood

substrate - the lining that covers the snakes enclosure - can be as simple as used newspapers folded to nearly line the bottom

snake feed is ridiculously cheap; i fed my corn snake pinkies - baby rats - for maybe a dollar each, and the snake only eats once every couple of weeks or so

I love snakes and currently breed scorpions.

Google search "kingsnake reptile expo". The events page should be the top result. They have reptile expos all around the country and the prices are rediculously cheap. You can prob get one of those snakes for 5-10 dollars.

As for upkeep, it's not that expensive. The most expensive is the initial tank setup. Get a 20 gal MINIMUM. Keep a heat lamp on at all times on one side of the tank. Provide a bowl of water large enough for the tank to submerge its entire body in another corner. Substrate is up to you, but I like the fluffy fuzzy shit you can buy cuz bark and dirt will fuck up a snake's nose.

Can give you much more detailed instructions if you like. Just pm me. Good luck bro.

Your looking at a snake that can go for 20,000$ + for super high quality individuals, and over a thousand for low quality.

I am considering getting a rosy boa soon, as they tend to be shorter than a garter snake, very rarely if ever bite, and are fairly cheap to boot. I saw one for 55$ on a website a few days ago, not to expensive at all.

Grows to a max length of around 42 inches vs a corn snakes max of near 60.

Alternatively you could go to a reptile expo, I have seen fairly nice looking feeder cornsnakes go for as low as 5$. It may be worth it if you have a garage to create a breeding cage for mice, so you do not have to pay as much for the pinkies.

pretty easy

get a big ass tank. keep a heat lamp on at all times on one end.

have a water bowl the snake can submerge itself fully in on another end

keep substrate clean.
