You definitely shouldn't beat and/or bite it. Get it a toy so it has something to bite.

Yeah, don't do that. It just annoys them, doesn't really make them all that "Okay, I respect that you're the boss here" like.

how old is the puppy ?

mine did the same in the first 2 months when i got her and she had alot of toys , but after 2 months she stopped it :P sometimes she still does it , but only sometimes xD

I'm almost 100% positive he meant like Cesar does (i.e. makes a mouth with his hand and bites the dog in either the neck or side).

I do this with my dog and it works amazing.
