basically you just need to get any large dog, and let it learn from your other dogs how to guard properly

i need another dog to protect my acreage from coyotes and bobcats
any ideas?
as much as people think about rottweilers and german shephards pitbulls etc they are the biggest wussies you could own
now i have a great pyrenees and a border collie i need a younger dog as they are getting old

depends how the rottweiler or german shepherd has been brought up - they can be good guard dogs
pitbulls are not really a guarddog breed

thats what its like with my pyrenees he just scares away them, i have only ever seen him get in a couple fights he mostly just acts agressive
the border collie is mostly my baby, she is more of a watchdog and is trained amazingly good

pyrenees (and their forerunners) have over centuries defended sheep flocks against wolves etc so it's clearly a good choice for protection against wild animals

not the ideal weather for pyrenees but your current one seems to cope well

but you could consider a neapolitan mastiff

Belgian Malinois
/thread

my neighbor has two of these and they dont care if a bull came on their land, they would kill it instantly.
be prepard to fork out some dough for these pups and their a handfull to train.

My german shepard would take anyones head off that walked through my backyard also.

if you want one for cheap money, go to the shelter nearest you and see what they got. you give a sheltered german love and compassion, they would risk their life for you no matter what

most dogs would, even lap dogs
there is a difference though between breeds in the instinct to protect property

one doesn't see many belgian shepherds (any of the breeds) around, but i meet a tervuren some times on my walks
and no surprise the traits of the german shepherd is similar, belgian shepherds provided a lot of input into the creation of the german shepherd as breed

Agree with the guy who said any medium to large breed will suffice if trained correctly.

We had a German Sherpard/Husky mix, and a purebred American pitbull on the family farm (40 acres of border property in Washington State), both wonderful gaurd dogs against bears, coyotes and smugglers.

not really true
many dog breeds are quite territorial (what you want in this case) but there are breeds which are not
